It is the centre of your power and this is something women are remembering.
This is not something that we were taught. This is something that women are remembering and choosing to learn more about.
The womb, for a lot of women, is a place that brings uncertainty and pain. Heavy periods. Fear of being pregnant when you don’t want to be. Or not being able to get pregnant when you want to be. So much grief, so much confusion all held in this one sacred space inside the body.
“Something deep inside me knew. That was a deep connection to my womb.”
I know this personally. Before I got pregnant, I could feel it in my system. The doctors were telling me I would not be able to have a child of my own and yet something deep inside me knew differently. Knew they were wrong. Knew I would have a child. That was a deep connection to my womb, and it changed everything for me.
Because the womb is our centre of power. It’s where we sense from, it helps us to navigate the world. And as I said this is not something we have been taught. It is something we are remembering, more and more. Wisdom that has been lost, at least in the western world. But now it is coming back to us.
Almost two years ago, I was privileged and honoured to travel to Ecuador, where I learned from indigenous midwives about the womb the wisdom it holds, and what it truly means to centre it.
They taught me that the womb is not fixed, the way we might imagine an organ to be. Our heart moves it shifts up and to the right during pregnancy to make space for your baby. The womb moves too. It moves and expands as a baby grows, and contracts again after the baby arrives. And beyond pregnancy, it moves with life itself. A car accident, a fall, a shock, the womb can shift. It can move to the right, to the left, forward, backward.
And where your womb sits tells you a lot about where you are in your life.
These indigenous midwives showed me how to centre the womb. How to feel for yourself, literally, with your own hands and your own awareness whether your womb is centred. And what it feels like when it comes back home to itself.
“The womb is not fixed. It moves with life. And it speaks to us if we are willing to listen.”
This is womb wisdom. Not a trend, not a concept. An ancient knowing that women are reclaiming in their bodies, for themselves.
