Under the Moon’s Light

My love for the moon began when I was a child. My mom and I would go outside together to look at the full moon, that luminous, glowing presence in the sky. It became our quiet ritual. When we no longer lived together, we would call, or text each other, “have you seen the moon?” Years later, when I was nursing her as she was dying, we continued the same ritual, stepping outside under the night sky, looking up at the full moon together. The last 7 full moons she was here were unique and beautiful. Holding the light and the dark of what was to come with her passing. The moon became a constant thread between us a witness to our love, our connection, and the cycles of life itself.

Over time, my relationship with the moon has deepened. I’ve learned how to work with her to listen, observe, and live in rhythm with her phases. During my Kundalini Yoga teacher training, I discovered the concept of the moon centres, different energetic points in a woman’s body that shift every few days, influencing how we feel, express, and relate to the world. It was a revelation, understanding that as women, we are deeply cyclical beings, just like the moon.

Later on, I learned about how women’s menstrual cycles often align with the moon. Some bleed with the new moon, a time of rest and renewal, while others bleed with the full moon, a time of creativity and visibility. Both hold their own wisdom.

Now, as a menopausal woman, I no longer cycle with my bleed, but I continue to cycle with the moon herself. Her phases offer a beautiful map for life, creativity, and energy flow. Cycling with the moon supported me to complete writing my Conscious Birth book, getting the most done in the last quarter gave me the focus I needed to complete a section at a time.

The Moon as Our Mirror

Here’s a glimpse into the rhythm I follow, how each phase of the moon offers guidance and insight:

🌑 New Moon Menstrual Phase
Rest & Reflect
A time for stillness, dreaming, setting intentions, and planting seeds for the month ahead.

🌒 Waxing Crescent
Plan & Take Action
Begin to move gently toward your intentions. Take practical steps and envision abundance.

🌓 First Quarter Follicular Phase
Plant & Initiate
The energy rises a time to make decisions, solve problems, and bring new ideas to life.

🌔 Waxing Gibbous
Refine & Prepare
Check in with your goals. Revisit, rewrite, and refine before the full expression.

🌕 Full Moon Ovulation Phase
Connect & Celebrate
The peak of energy. Be visible, celebrate your growth, release what’s ready to be shared.

🌖 Waning Gibbous
Support & Reflect
Turn your attention outward. Support others, share insights, and express gratitude.

🌗 Last Quarter Luteal Phase
Complete & Focus
Let go of what no longer serves you. Reconnect with spirit and your inner truth.

🌘 Waning Crescent
Rest & Nourish
Withdraw gently, rest deeply, and dream into the next cycle.

Living and Gardening with the Moon

In recent years, I’ve also begun gardening with the moon, not only tracking her phases but noticing the sign she moves through. When the moon is in certain signs, it’s a beautiful time for planting seeds; other times are better for harvesting, pruning, or tidying.

It’s a gentle, grounding way to live in harmony with the natural world to attune to the moon’s rhythm and let her guide the flow of our days.

For over a decade, I’ve also been sharing this practice through the beautiful moon calendars I sell, a simple daily reminder of where the moon is and how she moves. I refer to mine often; it’s become a beloved ritual in my own life. Orders for the new calendars can now be placed and will be ready by the end of the month, a lovely way to begin your own journey of living and creating with the moon.

The Womb Wisdom Weekend 2026

During the Womb Wisdom Weekend, we’ll explore this connection in depth, learning how to live, feel, and create in rhythm with the moon’s cycles. We’ll explore what it means to honour your inner seasons, whether you are menstruating, pregnant, postpartum, or walking the menopausal path.

I’ll be weaving together over thirty years of working with women’s bodies, drawing from traditional practices, modern understanding, and the wisdom gathered through my own journey. Much of what I share has been shaped by my time in Ecuador with Indigenous midwives, who taught me the beauty of ritual, ceremony, and the sacred ways women have always tended to one another.

Through ritual, reflection, movement, and shared stories, we’ll dive into the ancient feminine knowledge that lives within us all, the wisdom that says your body knows how to flow, when to rest, and when to rise.

It’s a weekend of remembering, of coming home to your body’s natural intelligence and reconnecting with your inner lunar rhythm.

A Closing Reflection

For me, the moon has always been a reminder that everything moves in cycles, light and dark, expansion and rest, birth and release.

When I step outside and look up at her, I feel both humbled and held. I remember that we, too, are made of the same rhythm, the same mystery, the same light.

May you always find your own reflection in the moon and may she guide you home to yourself, again and again.
